Cebu City, Philippines. On June 20, Underwater Fashion Photographer, Mick Gleissner, wrapped up a 10 day photo shoot for his Nautical Angels Calendar, featuring beautiful women from all over the world in contrived situations underwater. Sports as a predominant theme for his photos included two women boxing in a ring and a model slam-dunking a basketball in a weightless environment. Achieving such unique shots involved an extensive 20 person production crew of producers, set designers, engineers, divemasters, as well as a yacht and floating production facility.
The models, hailing from SE Asia, Europe and the US, received extensive training that focused on increasing their comfort in the water so they appeared relaxed for the poses. Part of the training also concentrated on breath holding skills. Most models arrived with the ability to hold their breaths for only 20-30 seconds, but left with tripling or quadrupling their time.
The 2006 Nautical Angels Calendar will be available for preorder in July 2005.
